Danshell Learning Disability and Autism Services

Danshell supports and cares for adults living with a learning disability, who may also have a diagnosis of autism, in specialist supported living, residential services and hospitals. Our aim is to deliver effective and outcome based services within person centred, professional care environments, supporting people to have the most choice and independence possible. We set high standards for ourselves in the delivery of care, and most importantly, we put the people we support at the heart of everything we do.

At Danshell we believe that everyone in our teams has a valuable contribution to make to the health and wellbeing of the people we support. Whether that is a registered nurse, a support worker, or a student nurse.

We offer placements for student nurses at many of our services and work hard to support them as they begin their career in learning disability nursing. We are signed up to the standards of the Preceptorship Charter and ensure we guide preceptorship nurses as they begin their nursing career through supportive and focussed mentoring. We actively work hard to attract nurses who have a true passion to follow Learning Disability or Mental Health career pathways by providing a learning environment that is both inclusive and supportive.

We are proud to have a significant number of nurses who have remained with Danshell throughout their careers. Many of these nurses have achieved Senior Nurse, Charge Nurse, Deputy Manager and Service Manager nursing posts through working hard, pushing themselves through study, hands on experience, and development opportunities, as well as coaching and support from their mentor.

We have a dedicated team of Consultant Nurses who are led by our Director of Quality & Governance. This ensures all of our services receive support and advice from a professional nursing leadership team. Having such exceptional nursing leadership across the organisation means we are invited to lead and participate in a range of national and regional initiatives and networks for nursing.
