Danshell Learning Disability and Autism Services

Danshell supports and cares for adults living with a learning disability or autism in specialist hospitals and residential services. Our aim is to deliver effective and outcome based services within person centred, professional care environments. We support individuals with a learning disability, who are on the autistic spectrum or have mental or physical ill health. We set high standards for ourselves in the delivery of care, and most importantly, we put service users at the centre of everything we do.

At Danshell we provide relevant clinical expertise to facilitate effective treatment with positive outcomes across all of our services. To do so we employ a range of professionals from health, social care and education – these include:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Psychologists including clinical, counselling and forensic psychologists
  • Psychology assistants
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Psychotherapists
  • Teachers
  • Social workers

Our group of clinicians are led by Dr Jane McCarthy, Medical Director. Jane is a Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrist who has wide experience in community and hospital services for people with learning disabilities. Jane acts as responsible officer for medical revalidation.

We actively encourage clinicians to take part in the wider aspects of clinical practice and we seek to employ clinicians who will further add to our strong research background or who may work for professional or regulatory bodies such as the Royal College of Psychiatrists. We would encourage established trainers of all professional groups to join us and to continue to expand the range of training placements that we currently provide.
