We are delighted to announce that Newbus Grange in Darlington, is celebrating after receiving Quality Network for Inpatient Learning Disability Services (QNLD) accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
QNLD is a standards-based quality network that facilitates the sharing of best practice within learning disability services, based on external peer review. The specialist standards are developed in consultation with accredited services and incorporate national requirements and recommendations.
It engages staff and service users through a comprehensive review, highlighting good practice and high quality care and support. Services identify areas for improvement and set achievable targets for change.
Newbus Grange underwent a three-year process towards accreditation, with both self and peer-reviews taking place. The endorsement demonstrates to commissioners, regulators, service users and families that feedback from the people the hospital supports is vital in maintaining quality of care.
Feedback from Newbus Grange reviews praised the ‘person-centred approach’ and ‘well-supported, trained staff’, and noted that ‘all activities are clearly person-centred and individualised’ and that the ‘support workers are exemplary.’
Hazel Southern, the Manager at Newbus Grange, said: “To achieve QNLD accreditation is absolutely fantastic.
“It was a long and thorough process, but it enabled us to build up a network of support from other hospitals and homes to share best practice. More importantly it engaged the people we support, who are the key to the design of high quality care.
“The programme works with staff and with people who have real experience of using services to develop the standards, and this fits with Danshell’s ethos of putting the people we support at the heart of everything we do.”
Our CEO, Mel Ramsey, said: “I am so very proud of everyone at Newbus Grange.
“This is a wonderful achievement, which is a great credit to every member of staff at Newbus Grange and the wider Danshell team. The willingness of the team to always go the extra mile is evident.
“We encourage people to say how they feel about all aspects of the service they receive and we give them the tools and support to do this. This includes their views about how we deliver support to them, their care plans and the activities they want to do. QNLD also puts the people who use the service at the forefront and this is what makes it even more satisfying that Newbus Grange has received its accreditation. Well done everyone!”
