Chantel Cumberland, Activity Coordinator at Ducks Halt care home in Kirby-le-Soken, Essex, has been shortlisted in the Activity Organiser category at the Great British Care Awards.
These awards pay tribute to people who have demonstrated outstanding excellence through their work in the care sector.
Chantel’s role is to ensure that the people supported at Ducks Halt have a range of person-centred activities and are supported to live as fulfilling and independent lives as possible.
Ducks Halt supports women who are living with a learning disability and complex needs, including people who may have additional mental and physical health needs, and complex behaviours.
Melinda Glover, our Divisional Managing Director for Scotland and South East England, said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Chantel and very proud of her.
“The role of an activity co-ordinator is so important to our services. Chantel is very creative and is passionate about ensuring the people she supports have the opportunity to do new things, which enhance their lives.
“She, like all our activity co-ordinators, works hard with the people she supports, their families and those closest to them to find out what is important to them and to ensure that they are able to choose activities they enjoy. Whether it is being someone to talk to, go for a walk or helping the ladies to buy clothing, Chantel makes sure the people she supports are cared for and supported in every way possible.”
