At the end 2017, Matthew and Daniel, two gentlemen from Willow House, were invited to join an advisory group with the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD). The advisory group meets four times a year and reports directly to the BILD Board of Directors. The aim of these sessions is to discuss issues and challenges facing adults with learning disabilities and how they can overcome these barriers.
Matthew and Daniel have now attended two of these sessions in Birmingham and were really excited to share their photo with us and tell us all about the second meeting that was held this month, as they had such a fantastic time.
The day was split into sessions with guest speakers, with everyone having the opportunity to mingle and get to know other people from all walks of life. This session focused on creating a group name. There were lots of suggestions, but the majority voted for ‘BILD-ing for the future’.
Matthew and Daniel loved the opportunity to take part in this important advisory group and are pictured here showing off their certificates that say they are official members! Matthew said, “The best bit for me was joining in as a group and meeting new people.” Daniel said, “There were lots of nice people there and they all listened to my suggestions. I like the name and I’m looking forward to the next meeting. We even had tea and biscuits!”
Well done to Matthew and Daniel, it sounds like you’ve really got stuck in and are giving lots of good ideas!
