Xav’s* recipe for progress

Xav* had experienced part of his life in services around the South East of England. His last placement was at a locked rehabilitation unit where he had struggled to find meaningful daily activities. As a result, Xav* found it difficult to engage with staff members and other service users.

After assessment Xav* moved to Thors Park. During those first few weeks he started engaging in a small range of meaningful activities, as his new team gradually got to know him more and more. It soon became apparent that food was a motivating factor and something he valued. It was vital that meaningful activity be balanced with promoting a healthy lifestyle, so the planning began.

After a short time working with the team at Thors Park, Xav* started working in the training kitchen, preparing light meals for his lunch. This graded approach provided him with the skills to move to the next step, confidently and competently. Initially preparing a rather wonderful spaghetti with meatballs, Xav* was proud of his achievements and began to look at other meal options. He progressed with confidence to making his own dinner on a weekly basis and is looking forward to cooking a meal for his mum in the near future.
