 Nursing at Danshell

Nursing and Support Roles

At Danshell we believe that everyone in the nursing workforce has a valuable contribution to make to the health and wellbeing of the people we serve. Whether that is a registered nurse, a healthcare assistant, a support worker or a student nurse. When we use the term 'nursing workforce' this is who we mean, we mean everybody who has a part in delivering the 'round the clock' care required by our service users.

Our Nursing Director heads up a team of Consultant Nurses who provide professional nursing leadership and advice to the tasks of quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance within the regions. Marie has enjoyed a high profile career in nursing that spans 30 years and includes working in the NHS and Independent Sector. Each Consultant Nurse brings extensive academic and clinical expertise in working with children and adults across a range of settings. In addition to these professional leadership roles many of our managers are also registered nurses which means we have a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw on within the workforce and across our services and a robust career structure.

We work closely with the Royal College of Nursing on continuing professional development and offer placements for student nurses at many of our services. We are signed up to the standards of the Preceptorship Charter and ensure our newly qualified staff get good support and learning in their first role.

Having such exceptional nursing leadership across the organisation means we are invited to, lead and participate in a range of national and regional initiatives and networks for nursing.

Clinical Roles

At Danshell we provide relevant clinical expertise to facilitate effective treatment with positive outcomes across all of our services. To do so we employ a range of professionals from health, social care and education – these include:

  • Psychiatrists, including the specialties of forensic, child and adolescent and learning disability psychiatry
  • Psychologists including clinical, counselling and forensic psychologists
  • Psychology assistants
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Psychotherapists
  • Teachers
  • Social workers

The group of clinicians are led by Dr Jane McCarthy, Medical Director. Jane, a Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrist has a wide experience in community and hospital services for people with learning disabilities. Jane acts as responsible officer for medical revalidation.

We actively encourage clinicians to take part in the wider aspects of clinical practice and we seek to employ clinicians who will further add to our strong research background or who may work for professional or regulatory bodies such as the Royal College of Psychiatrists. We would encourage established trainers of all professional groups to join us and to continue to expand the range of training placements that we currently provide.

Business Support Administrators

Within each of our services there is a business support administrator who reports to the manager of the service. Your role is vital to ensuring we have skilled and dedicated support to manage office functions including finance, record keeping and reception. This enables us to ensure that the nursing staff are focussed on direct care delivery and our administrative duties are carried out in an efficient and effective manner. We rely on organised, professional, polite, and forward thinking individuals who take ownership of the day to day tasks and who can work well in a team.

Ancillary Staff

Creating a warm, clean and welcoming environment is crucial in the delivery of high quality health and social care. For this we rely heavily on our housekeeping, laundry, catering and general assistants. You will play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our service users ensuring that our standards of cleanliness, laundry, maintenance and food are second to none. We take a pride in these provisions and many of our services have been rewarded with sector awards that reflect this.

Head Office Roles

At Head Office there are lots of different departments and opportunities to work for us. They range from finance, human resources and training, recruitment, marketing, governance and clinical support as well as administration and secretarial roles. Communication is something we continually work to improve and by not working in isolated departments and by talking and sharing ideas through with one another we can make a difference to the way we deliver our services. We all have a responsibility to ensure that people live their lives in the way they want to and that means all of us playing our part. The workforce with our head office has a crucial role 'behind the scenes' in ensuring our services can function effectively and efficiently.
